Tumors & Lipomas
The following is the story of Mikela and her DogLeggs. Because of the size and location of Mikela's tumor, a special suspension system had to be incorporated into her left DogLegg as well as a totally different engineering design. Mikela was able to live comfortably with her tumor supported and covered. Unfortunately, Mikela's heart condition brought an end to her life. We at DogLeggs are thankful we were able to make a difference in her and her owners' life.
Mikela (shown here at 13 years old) had a lipoma on the outside of her left elbow since she was 8 years old. She had been under for a procedure that year and that vet wouldn't remove it and then a year later she was treated for Mast Cell Cancer at UC Davis and they too wouldn't remove the lipoma.
As time went on the lipoma grew slightly but at age 11 she was diagnosed with ARVC (boxer cardiomyopathy) and by this time the lipoma was larger. By the time I contacted DogLeggs the tumor had reached about 2 or more pounds in weight and removal wasn't an option since her arrythmias were too severe to withstand anestetic (30% chance she would survive). The DogLeggs were very helpful in taking the weight off of her leg and shoulder to carry this mass around and made it easier to bandage it as it tended to ooze. They gave her back quality of life. I only wish I would have found them sooner.
